Chiropractic Treatment for SI Joint Pain Relief | Chiropractor for SI Joint Pain in Springfield, IL

Hey everybody, this is Dr. Pat from Springfield Wellness Center and today we’re going to be talking about SI joint pain, and how chiropractic care can help alleviate it.

The sacroiliac joint, otherwise known as the SI joint is the joint where the sacrum meets the ilium, which is one of the bones in the pelvis. So when we look at our spine here, we can see this is the sacrum right here. This is the ilium right here, there’s a joint that’s formed between the two, right here. Now this is a very important joint, especially when it comes to how force is transmitted through the body. So every time that you take a step, and your weight goes through this leg, that force from the upper body gets transmitted through that joint into the leg, every time you take a step. So with every step, there’s a lot of force going through that joint. So it needs to be a big, strong, stable joint in order to withstand that and keep our biomechanics in check. So whenever the SI joint becomes painful, a lot of times it’s because it’s a little bit restricted, or sometimes out of its correct alignment. And so when that happens, that’s where we want to do chiropractic care, which is the adjustment we would do to help alleviate that SI joint pain.

What we’re going to do today is demonstrate a quick adjustment of the SI joint and show you just how simple it is to to get this thing moving, and start feeling a little bit better. So I’ll go ahead and demonstrate that. I start with the patient face down. And what I’m going to do is I’m gonna lift up one of these drop pieces in the table. So whenever the table pops up like this, what that does is puts the body in a slightly elevated position here, so that when I push down, the table is going to drop, and what that’s going to do is temporarily put her body in motion, so that when I do the push, what that’s going to do is it’s going to be a little more comfortable for her while we’re also getting the motion that we need. So it looks look at something just like this so as you can see, very easy adjustment to do very comfortable for the patient. Again, if that table was flat, and we were pushing on that joint, it’s not going to feel very good.

So what the drop piece does is it puts it in motion makes it more comfortable for the patient, it also makes the adjustment more effective. So in that case, what that does is helps to level out the legs, get that SI joint moving properly, and start taking care of some of that pain that’s going to bother somebody there. So if it’s inflamed and it’s irritated, if it’s restricted, chiropractic is going to help get that nervous system working well so that pain can start to subside over time.

So if you have SI joint pain, if you’re having this pain of the lower back, that tends to be kind of more on one side. It may be that SI joint and if you’ve never tried chiropractic before, we would highly recommend because it can save you a lot of trouble, you know further down the road. I hope you found this video informative, and we’ll see you on the next one.

Growing up in St. Louis, I was heavily involved with sports such as basketball, baseball and soccer. It was my life, and I loved each and every minute of it. Little did I know, however, that this love for sports would have such a significant influence on the kind of work I wanted to do in the future.
